Successful year for Commerce Commission

The Fiji Commerce Commission believes it’s achieved quite a bit in 2014 with the review and implementation for self regulating guidelines in a number of sectors.

Chief executive Bobby Maharaj says the review of price control laws have also been successful.

Maharaj says the Commission has successfully reviewed and released all price control orders that expire at the end of 2014.

He says most of the Fair Trading complaints this year has also been reviewed.

“94% of 861 fair trading complaints that we received, 92% of the rent complaints that is 92% of 1058 complaints that was received by the Commission – formerly and informally in relation to the rent sector, also lets say a successful implementation of 3 new self regulating guidelines which in relation to towing, second hand motor-vehicle dealers in Fiji, self regulating guidelines for landlords and tenants.”

Maharaj says the Commission has also noted improvements in compliance by traders.
