Studies on the Tamavua-i-wai bridge in Lami is currently underway before any decisions on upgrade work will be made.

Fiji Roads Authority, Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore says they are working on getting a new design for the bridge.

Moore says they will only be able to determine the scope of work by thorough technical studies.

” We’ve got crew out there now doing technical studies because of the issue over the ground conditions and the soft ground and the mud. We have to do proper in depth studies otherwise the bridge will sink. So the crew has been out there for the last two to three weeks and we’re aiming to get the bridge in place around about third quarter of this year.”

Meanwhile, FRA plans to replace forty bridges around the country in the next three years.

They aim to build more modular steel bridges that will last at least a few decades.
