Winds have died down in Ogea Island in the Southern Lau group this afternoon however cloudy conditions still hangs over the coral island as Tropical Cyclone Gita slowly moves away from the Fiji Waters.
Ogea Island representative Jimilai Kotobalavu told FBC News strong winds experienced in the morning have calmed down.
He says the villagers will not rest until TC Gita is completely away from the island and poses no more threat to the group.
He says they have been preparing well from last night cutting down trees, putting up shutters, storing enough water and batteries and ensuring evacuation Centres are secured.
Kotobalavu adds they’re only experiencing a slight drizzle this hour with two evacuation Centres open in the island.
