Stop violence before it starts

UN Women Pacific representative Aleta Miller says there’s been a lot of focus on response to violence against women, however there’s now a need to move towards the prevention agenda to stop violence before it starts.
For quite long, violence has been a concern in not only Fiji, but globally as well.
Miller says families need to understand the hard work and sacrifices women do.
“Causes of violence against women are generally strongly related to social norms about the role of a man, the role of a woman and to power so generally it all comes to power and this is why prevention is essential.”
Two out of three women in Fiji, face some sort of violence in their lifetime.
