Step-father refused bail

A 45-year-old construction worker of Vatuwaqa in Suva who allegedly raped his stepdaughter on several occasions has been charged and remanded in custody.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offence between the months of May and June, this year at their home.

The man asked for bail as he has a heart problem and wants to support his family.

However, Police Prosecution refused bail because the 17-year-old victim lives in the same house as the accused.

Magistrate, Waleen George has transferred the case to the Suva High Court where the accused can apply for a proper bail application.

The case will be recalled on the 21st of this month.
