Good progress has been made on many negotiating items says Prime Minister and COP23 president Voreqe Bainimarama.

Speaking at the opening of the High Level Segment event, Bainimarama said some key decisions are ready to be adopted.

Only two more days remain for negotiations – he has urged the delegates to stay on course with negotiations and achieve a successful outcome.

“We all carry the responsibility of honouring the work that has gone before us. And to fulfil our duty to safeguard the interests of those we represent today and in the generations to come. It is a grave responsibility and we must all live up to it. And with two days to go before we wind up our deliberations – and let’s do so on time – I appeal to you all to remain focused on a successful outcome so COP23 can take its place in the proud history of this agreement.”

The Prime Minister also revealed there has been an agreement on a decision relating to pre 2020 implementation and ambition.

In the next few hours, and tomorrow, country statements will be delivered at the High Level plenary session.
