State to look after children of burns victim

The State will now be looking after the three children of Sheral Sandhya Kumar who died from burns after her husband allegedly set her alight two weeks ago.

Aged eight, three and one year’s respectively, they are now left to be cared for by their grandmother after their mother passed away in hospital a few days after she was set on fire.

Minister for Women and Children Rosy Akbar visited the children and their grandmother – who’s the guardian at their home in Raviravi, Ba.

“For the time being we have programs in place to assist the guardian, in this case the grandmother and the three children they will be assisted through our food voucher and cash allowance each month. We will continue to monitor to see if they need additional information.”

The children’s father, Ventkesh Permal is in police custody charged with murder.
