State of natural disaster declared

The Director Disaster Management Office, Manasa Tagicakibau today announced the Declaration of State of Natural Disaster for the Northern and Western division effective from today. (Tuesday, 18 December, 2012)

The state of natural disaster will be in effect for 15 days.

Tagicakibau says this is to allow authorities and stakeholders to speed up rehabilitation works in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Evan.

A state of Natural Disaster has been declared for parts of the Western Divisions worst hit by the flooding.

The areas include in the Ra Province: Rakiraki Tikina, Naroko Tikina.

In Tavua District: Yaladro Flats, Korovou Village, Balata, Natawa, Yasiyasi and Tavua village.

In Ba District: Ba Town area, Wailailai area, Vatua Flats, Namosau area, Koronubu areas, Rarawai, Moto, Nasolo Village, Yatulaulau, Yalalevu residential and farming areas, Nukulau, Toge and Balevuto.

In Lautoka: Sabeto Flats, Barara Flats, Lomolomo, Natabua Sea Side, Vitogo Flats, Naviyago Flats, Paipai, Lovu Flats and Drasa.

In Nadi: the Nadi Market, Nadi Bus Stand area, Andrews Road, Hospital Road, Raniga Street, Korociriciri Settlement, Nawatikuma Settlement, Navokai Flats, Moala Village, Korovuto, Navutolei, Nawaqa, Navatu Road, Navakai, Nawaka Village, Narewa Village, Sikituru and Navusaniya Village, Tunalia, Rararua and Draki village, Kararas Road, Valemasima settlement, Tualevu, Koronigava settlement and Nasoso.

For Nadroga: Nokonoko and Nasigatoka Tikinas, Cuvu, Tuva, Malomalowai, Raviravi and Koroinasau.

In Navosa: Nasikawa Tikina, Namataku, Bemana, Navua and Naqalimare.

Provincial Development Permanent Secretary Colonel Inia Seruiratu says declaring a state of Natural Disaster means these areas will get the help they need.
