The government does not get involved in any abuse of office claims.

Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s not prudent for the government to comment on the allegations of abuse of office by the University of the South Pacific.

Sayed-Khaiyum was responding to queries raised by Opposition MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau in parliament today regarding the government’s position on the allegations.

The Minister clarifies the government does not run the USP council as it carries out its own affairs.

“If there has been any report to any independent body than again there’s a due process to it and they need to go through the process and it is not prudent for us to comment on that”

Meanwhile, in a statement by the USP earlier this month highlighted several independent investigators will be invited to carry out the investigation which starts today.

The final investigation report has to be submitted by August 16.
