The state of health of the oceans and climate change are two major challenges facing the world at the moment, whereby the causes are similar for both.
Land and Mineral Resources Minister Faiyaz Koya says the future of the whole Pacific rests on all of our shoulders and we need to maneuver ourselves.
This is to ensure that viable advancements are experienced now, tomorrow and onwards to effectively address this world threatening risk.
The Minister was speaking at the Science, Technology and Resources Network Conference 2017 in Nadi.
Minister Faiyaz Koya reminded delegates from around the Pacific at the meeting that concrete resolutions will be reached at this conference to outline the value in refreshing and animating scientific alliances to showcase useful work, techniques and instrumentation that may be adapted to address development issues of the Pacific region.
He adds this is by no means a small undertaking; it requires a collaborative effort on all parts to ensure that the Pacific realizes opportunities for sustainable ocean development focusing on targeted growth that can be measured upon scientific principles and data.
Leading regional geoscience, technology and resource specialists are expected to convene at the conference to draw attention to opportunities that can be realized from Sustainable Development Goals 14 on Oceans to provide new focus for the development of targets that can be measured and tracked upon good scientific principles and data.
