The standard of imported building materials will be closely monitored by the Construction Industry Council.
Council Chief Executive, Vijay Naidu says some construction companies buy low-cost building materials and don’t consider the quality of materials.
Naidu says the council has selected a task group to monitor the importation of all building materials.
“The other important thing is standards, because we in Fiji are importing certain building materials which are sub-standard, they are cheaper and they could have an impact for the uses of those materials.”
Naidu says the council is working on ensuring that all construction companies comply with the building standards in Fiji.
Meanwhile, the licensing of construction companies will also be a major focus for the council.
