The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be looking to continue the construction and upgrade of sports facilities around the country to promote a healthy lifestyle.

In his maiden speech in Parliament yesterday, Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou said the projects which included several facilities in the urban and rural areas will be a positive step to instilling health and fitness throughout the country.

“My ministry is committed to elevating the current status of our sports participation as a community, district, national and international level. The National Sports Commission has established a clear and manageable framework to guide and enhance the delivery of the sports program in Fiji and the opportunity for every Fijian to actively participate in sports or physical activity both for their enjoyment and to improve their general health.”

The former Commissioner Central says he is honoured to be tasked with a portfolio that deals with the future generation of this country and will do his utmost best to enforce a healthy lifestyle among the youth population.

Tuitubou says his ministry will be working closely with the Fiji Sports Commission in monitoring the projects, which began earlier this year.
