Special response team on standby during ADB meeting

The Fiji Police have a special response unit on standby – should an emergency arise at the Asian Development Bank meeting.

The meeting is currently on-going at Sheraton Resort on Denarau in Nadi.

Chief of Operations and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Maretino Qiolevu says with more than 400 officers deployed, they each have a specific role to play.

“And those that are on the road blocks and the check points and we also have our reserve team, our special response unit, we have about 30 of them on standby and there are based at Namaka Police Station should they be required for any emergency.”

In addition, the Fiji police have incorporated air and maritime surveillance as part of the security detail at the meeting.

ACP Qiolevu says that they have been preparing for over a year for this meeting with more than 3, 000 delegates expected to attend.

Fiji is the first developing member country to host the ADB’s annual board of governor’s meeting.
