A special cane payment of four dollars per tonne will be paid to all growers who supplied cane to the respective sugar mills in the 2012 crushing season.

Sugar Cane Growers Council Acting CEO – Sundresh Chetty says this is to enable growers to prepare their children for the new school term.

Chetty says the Council made an application to the Sugar Ministry to have the special cane payment – during an emergency meeting last week.

The Ministry agreed with the application and will award the payment.
