November 25, 2014 7:08 pm

Speaker of the House Dr Jiko Luveni says Public Accounts Committee need to resolve their impasse quickly and convene its meeting.

Dr Luveni says she has raised her concerns with the Committee about the delays several times… and they need to begin their work at the earliest.

The first sitting of the Committee was scheduled for earlier this month… but did not eventuate due to differences amongst the members.

“I really would want to settle this once and for all so the Public Accounts Committee could go ahead and start with their work, but the public accounts reports have been tabled in parliament and they are readily available to anyone including the media so everyone has had a look at it, it’s just a matter of getting the committee to get together and actually scrutinize it and prepare report for the parliament.”

Dr Luveni says the matter has been referred to their caucus group… which involves the government and the opposition sides and they need to solve it within themselves.

The opposition maintains it supports NFP leader Profesor Biman Prasad as chair while the government side does not support Prasad claiming he has publicly scrutinized the auditor general’s reports without convening the first meeting.

Meanwhile Prasad confirmed to FBC News that he is still waiting for a letter from the Speaker.

Prasad says the letter is expected to outline the demands put by the government about him…which he will refer to the Opposition Leader to decide on their next step.
