Speaker urges MP’s to serve Fiji well

The newly elected speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has urged all members of Parliament to serve the nation well.

In his address yesterday, Nailatikau says that as political leaders, they must serve the national interest and advance the common good.

He also encouraged the house to embrace collegiality, fellowship, mutual and reciprocal respect during all proceedings.

MP’s were also advised to be agents that promote the unity and advancement of Fiji.

The former President was appointed following a secret ballot in the House, attaining 30 votes against 21 to Opposition nominee Tanya Waqanika.
