Speaker calls for decorum from MPs

November 19, 2015 9:00 pm

Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni has urged Members of Parliament to maintain order and the decorum of the House.

The call comes after the Attorney General and Acting PM Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum raised a Point of Order that Opposition MP Ratu Isoa Tikoca was doing some hand gestures towards him.

Dr Luveni then asked Ratu Isoa to explain his actions to which he replied that the AG does exactly those gestures and questioned why he should be singled out for doing the same.

The Speaker then stated that the Budget debate has been stopped unnecessarily due to some disrespectful actions of some MPs.

Dr Luveni told the MPs that there are people including children in the gallery who are seeing their actions and that they should respect the House.
