The ‘Secretariat of the Pacific Community’ has undergone a name change – it will now be known simply by its formal name, the ‘Pacific Community’.

Director-General, Dr Colin Tukuitonga, says reverting to the organisation’s formal name reflects its inclusive mandate and broad Pacific region coverage.

He says it also promotes greater ownership by their 26 country and territory members, beyond the secretariat.

The name change coincides with the release of the Strategic Plan for 2016 to 2020.

Dr Tukuitonga says a refreshed Pacific Community logo has also been released.

The abbreviation ‘SPC’ is being retained given its widespread use across the Pacific Islands region.
