The South African High Commission says it has taken note of the incident involving one of its diplomats and the loss of life of 26-year-old Ashneel Singh.

In a statement this afternoon the High Commission said it has reported the matter to its Head Office, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, in Pretoria for consideration.

It says after receiving guidance from DIRCO, the High Commission would engage the relevant stakeholders in Suva.

The statement says it should be appreciated that the incident involves different players and it has to go through certain processes which are not yet finalized.

The High Commission has expressed its sympathy and condolences to the family of Singh.

Singh died when a car driven by a South African diplomat allegedly hit his vehicle in Suva on Friday night.

Singh’s funeral will be held tomorrow.
