146 Fijian soldiers have settled in Lebanon after they were redeployed from the Golan Heights in Syria this month.

Qiliho says the soldiers are currently undergoing special training which is expected to last the next 5 weeks.

‘’They are there as the force commanders reserve and that encompasses the whole lot of duties that the Force Commander will task them with they moved away from the snow and the cold of Golan heights and we can say fortunate or unfortunately for them they got into Lebanon and encountered snow for all again and when they arrived there’’.

The Land force Commander says the deployment is temporary and the situation on the ground will determine the length of their mission.

‘’When the requirement came for the surge troops in Golan Heights to return there then they would return there. That was the way it was discussed initial but will see how things transpire’’.

Fijian soldiers last served in UNIFIL in Lebanon in 2002.
