Homes at Navakawau village in Vuna, Taveuni are progressively being fitted with solar units.

At present, 72 homes have solar and 10 more are expected to have this installed this month.

District Representative Laisiasa Tuimouta says they hope to have all 116 homes in the village fitted with solar units.

Villagers had requested for the solar units during the Prime Minister’s visit to the island last year.

Tuimouta says by August last year, 60 homes had solar installed.

He says students are mostly benefitting from the solar electrification project as it allows them to study under good light.

The solar system units installed allows homes to have basic electrical appliances for everyday use.
