SOE designates public areas for campaign material placement

The Fijian Elections Office has published a list of public areas that have been designated for the placement of campaign materials for the General Election.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says this was necessary under the Electoral Act to ensure political parties and their representatives are able to plan their campaign activities.

Saneem says although the election date has not been announced yet, they found that it is necessary to assist in the preparation for the election for the political parties particularly.

He says this approval under Section 112 of the Act will facilitate in the decision that the parties will make while planning their campaign.

The Supervisor however, warns that placing of campaign materials in public areas which are not designated will result in a breach of the Electoral Act.

Campaign materials can be placed in any private premises subject to the approval of owner.

Saneem says the campaign materials have to be take down 48 hours prior to the start of polling on Election Day.
