Opposition MP Semesa Karavaki says they will take the issue of the eligibility of Jioji Konrote for President to court.
This after Parliament today voted in Jioji Konrote to be Fiji’s next President after the current President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau finishes his term next month.
Karavaki was the first of 3 SODELPA MPs to raise a point of order prior to the vote for the appointment of the President.
‘’Under section 83 of the Constitution Madam Speaker – I submit section 1 © disqualifies Hon Konrote to be nominated as a nominee for His Excellency the Presidents post. The issue there Madam Speaker is whether Hon Konrote is a member of a political party’’.
FBC News approached the Leader of Opposition – Ro Teimumu Kepa for a comment in particular on a social media posting of a planned protest and boycott of the vote in Parliament.
Ro Teimumu told us she didn’t know where we got our information from.
The National Federation Party abstained from the voting.
