SODELPA submits new flag petition

SODELPA Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa led a party delegation to Government Buildings in Suva in the last hour to submit a petition against the change of the national flag.

Ro Teimumu handed the petition – signed by over 11,000 people to the Department of Information this afternoon.

Accompanied by SODELPA General Secretary Pio Tabaiwalu and the SODELPA Youth Wing, Ro Teimumu marched from the Opposition Office around Parliament and the Court house, in front of Government Buildings – which houses the Prime Minister’s office before delivering the petition.

Ro Teimumu told FBC News, the majority of the people want to retain the current flag.

A deadline for the members of the public to provide feedback on their choice of design for a new national flag ends today.

Earlier this afternoon, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said a statement would be issued about his decision on whether there would be an extension to the deadline.
