SODELPA President to solve SODELPA rift

August 19, 2015 6:42 pm

SODELPA President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalvu, who is away in Australia is expected to return to the country to solve the pending rift within the Party.

Outspoken SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavo says they are awaiting the Tui Cakau’s return so he can make a decision on calls for an investigation into the findings of an audit report into the Opposition office as well as several complaints lodged against Party Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Of particular concern to Bulitavo is an allegation in the said report of a bank statement that mentions the government grant that is to be given to each MP for constituency allowance. This he says was not given to them.

“It was supposed to be given to the Party, from the Party to the Members of Parliament and MPs to do their constituency visits and constituency work. But those funds were somehow diverted to the Opposition Office to pay the Opposition Office Operation Budget like the salary of Opposition Staff. That was not the intention of the law that created that government grant.”

Since the report was leaked last week, Bulitavo has lodged an official complaint with the SODELPA Management Board.

He is frustrated that to date, the Board has not sat to address the complaint.

Bulitavo is threatening to resign from the Party if this is not done.

Under the Party Constitution, the Management Board is to investigate any member who is accused of misconduct.

FBC News understands, Bulitavo and three other SODELPA MP’s have lodged complaints against the Party Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Attempts to get comments from Ro Teimumu have been futile.
