Battle for SODELPA hierarchy

June 25, 2019 3:00 pm

The senior leadership of the Social Democratic Liberal Party are tightlipped about the Annual General Assembly in Savusavu this Friday.

FBC News understands the key issue on the agenda will be the election of new office bearers for SODELPA.

Anare Jale is currently Acting President while Viliame Gavoka is the Acting Vice President after the resignation of Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and Ro Dona Takalaiyale respectively – for personal reasons.

FBC News has attempted to speak with Acting President Anare Jale on the matter.

Discussions are also likely to include claims of unfair election campaign tactics within the Party highlighted by senior members like Niko Nawaikula and Dr Mere Samisoni. Both have spoken publicly about so-called attempts to undermine their campaigns in the 2018 General Election.

It’s also believed that members will demand to see the result of an investigation into allegations of abuse of office raised by SODELPA Youth leader Jope Koroisavou.

The decision to host the AGM in Savusavu was a contentious one as some SODELPA members had wanted the Meeting to be held in Suva.

However, Jale says the decision of the Board is final.
