The Fiji Police Force Cyber Crime Unit receives more than 7 complaints a week with the most common being identity theft and bullying via social media.

Chief of Intelligence ACP Henry Brown says the unit continues to be inundated with reports directly linked to social media websites.

ACP Brown says there have also been instances of online shopping where the goods have not been delivered.

The public is being advised to be cautious about the amount of personal information being divulged on such sites.

ACP Brown says cyber criminals are becoming sophisticated, finding ways of taking advantage of information available.

Police say the use of social media by young children should also be closely monitored.
