Drivers will now receive reminders about their fines via text messages.

This is after the Land Transport Authority and Vodafone Fiji signed an SMS agreement today to help drivers pay their fine on time and avoid accumulation.

LTA Board Chair Vijay Maharaj says drivers will have no more excuses in paying fines on time.

“Previously what used to happen was that our red lights stroke speed cameras would capture an offense and the vehicle owner would be sent a letter via post where often the customers would miss deadline, by the time they receive their traffic infringement notices, however drivers will have no excuse that they were not notified.”

Maharaj says once drivers receive a text message from them, they will then need to visit their nearest LTA office to pay their fine.

Meanwhile, Vodafone Acting Chief Executive Ronald Prasad says the core purpose of this is to provide information to the customers of LTA in this case drivers who are offending.

The new initiative is expected to begin next Monday.
