Sleeping it off in the cell

December 24, 2012 12:03 am

The Fiji Police Force is now urging the public to act responsibly if drinking alcohol.

The advice comes after an increase in the number of people kept in police custody overnight because they were too drunk to be left on their own.

Spokesperson – Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri says they don’t want people sleeping in the cell this festive season.

“An advice from the Fiji Police Force is for people to be moderate when consuming alcohol. We have had to take people in to sleep in our cells because they were simply too intoxicated to even walk. This has also resulted in overcrowding. We have had to keep them before they can sober up and return home.”

Sokomuri is also urging people to be careful while out shopping because criminal elements will be out looking for easy victims.
