Six thousand Fijians from sixteen urban settlements are part of a programme funded by the UN Adaptation Fund Board.

The programme is based on increasing resilience adaptation of informal urban settlements that are highly vulnerable to climate change and disaster risk.

The Board has given $4.2 million out of which two point six million has been utilized to fund these highly vulnerable settlements.

UN Habitat Urban Resilience, Team Leader, Silvia Gallo has confirmed the team has already completed the household’s assessment and consultation.

“We have captured the economic and social situations from all the households that have been interviewed and we have covered almost all the households that are part of the settlement and of course we have captured as well what their main problems are, how they already cope when they can and what is their opinion on what could be the potential of every community.”

The agreement of cooperation regarding the four year programme was signed this year between Fiji and UN Habitat.
