Six homeless after fire destroys two houses

Six people are homeless after their homes which were adjacent to each other were destroyed in an early morning blaze today.

The fire started around 8am at Yadrana settlement in Delainavesi, Lami.

One of the houses owner, Kali Koroicure says she was at work at the time of the incident.

Koroicure says the fire has destroyed her families’ years of hard work.

Two people including an elderly lady were inside one of the houses when the fire started, however they managed to escape safely.

“I was shocked and same time I find my way home and I was just standing here and looking at what was happening.”

When FBC New visited the site this morning, fire fighters were still trying to put out the flames.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.
