Social Democratic Liberal Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka will no longer be required to notify FICAC on his travels outside Suva.

This is after the Suva Magistrates Court allowed an application made by the Defence counsel to drop the bail conditions whereby Rabuka had to notify FICAC via email if he had to travel outside.

Defence lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo said that Rabuka has to travel on short notices as part of his campaign.

Vosarogo said that Rabuka has persistent and reporting to Police station as part of his bail conditions.

FICAC lawyer Rashmi Aslam did not object however requested if the other bail condition of not interfering with the witnesses could be maintained.

Meanwhile in his pre-trial conference, the Defence has sought four orders and FICAC will be responding to it in writing.

The matter has been adjourned to 1st October.

Rabuka has been charged by FICAC under Section 24 of the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Act of 2013.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of providing false declaration of Assets, Income and Liabilities to the Supervisor of Election.

It is alleged that Rabuka provided false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections last year by failing to provide information pertaining to the tax liability with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Services which amounted to over $316,000.

It is also alleged that he failed to declare investment and interest income from Raghwan Constructions Limited amounting to $200,000 and $16,000 respectively and also has a liability in the amount of $120,000.
