Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu commissioned a new borehole yesterday in the village of Naveyago in Nadroga.
The project – Project Aqua – is implemented and funded by British American Tobacco and aims to provide clean and safe drinking water, a basic necessity.
The project brings an end to unsafe water sources consumption for the 50 households.
Seruiratu while opening the project noted that these villages and communities are critical in national development and for a long time have been deprived of clean and safe drinking water which will provide 250 families with safe drinking water.
The project will see the construction and commission of boreholes for ten rural communities that will provide a steady supply of clean and safe drinking water to Fijians.
It will also see the installation of 10, 000 litre tanks and basic water system in these communities and villages.
Other communities where similar projects will be implemented include Savalau and Vunaqoru which will be completed in the coming week.
