There is a shortage of three hundred Doctors in the Health Ministry.
Minister responsible, Rosy Akbar says they currently have six hundred and sixty doctors and the numbers needed to meet the patient ratio is 960.
With another lot of sixty eight doctors inducted today, Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Bernadette Welch says this number is still far from addressing the shortage of doctors in the country.
“We still have vacancies for about three hundred doctors and we have been running five phases of recruitment so far since March last year and each phase involves an overseas recruiter and we’ve been running advertisers constantly to bring overseas Doctors to Fiji”.
With numerous complaints received by the health ministry regarding the issue, Health Minister Rosy Akbar says work is progressing to meet the demand from the public.
