Shipment of fresh produce sent to the north

A shipment of agricultural produce was sent to the North by the Agro marketing Authority to help Fijians affected by TC Yasa.

Agriculture Minister, Dr Mahendra Reddy, says this follows the concerns raised by Labasa Market Vendors, farmers and suppliers whose produce were severely affected by the cyclone.

Dr Reddy says they will also allow the private sector to supply vegetables to help meet the demand.

“We want to give time to the private sector to come in and provide vegetables to Labasa from Viti Levu. If we see that they are not coming, we will enter through Agromarketing Authority and we will make three trips per week so that we will ensure that people in Vanua Levu, in Labasa, in particular, are able to have an adequate supply of fresh produce.”

Reddy says they have also distributed seeds to help Fijians living in the North to get them back on track in the next three months.
