More than 30 sharks close to two feet long each have mysteriously washed up on the sands at Nukulau Island.

The caretaker on the island, Viliame Lalakai told FBC News he was baffled and shocked at the scene that greeted him this morning.

“At about nine o’clock I walked to the beach and saw the small sharks stuck in the sand and they were all dead. Maybe some more will drift ashore and I don’t know whether they were poisoned or someone killed them and disgarded them all which resulted in them being washed up on our shores this morning.”

Lalakai says he has tried contacting authorities but until now, no-one has visited the island.
