The Sugarcane Growers Fund will now be able to easily disperse loans to farmers.

This comes as the Fund has entered into an agreement with Vodafone Fiji to use its M-Paisa platform.

Chief Executive Raj Sharma says out of 11, 500 active farmers, a total of 558 farmers are already utilizing the platform.

“We also pay the insurance and payout insurance claims up to the value of $10,000 to the farmers. Framers will not have to travel as we will not give them a cheque, we directly put money into their m-paisa account which they can redeem and buy.”

Sharma adds they will put money directly into the farmers’ accounts which will enable them to do hardware shopping and pay directly through the QR system at any Vinod Patel outlet.
