SEZ project aims to build economic resilience

In an effort to enhance the Special Economic Zone Project in Lautoka, the Industry Ministry signed an MOU with the Fiji National Provident Fund.

The project aims to build economic resilience against natural disasters, create employment to eradicate the urban drift challenges faced by communities in the Western division.

The MOU will guide land use, development and operation of the SEZ Project.

Under the agreement, the Ministry will undertake policy oversight, provide support towards the operation, sales, leasing, marketing, incentives, concessions, one-stop-shop services for investors and access to utilities for the project.

FNPF will act as the primary developer and support infrastructure through related civil works.

As per Fiji’s five and 20 year National Development Plan, the government is committed to developing Fiji as a manufacturing and services hub of the Pacific for which developing specialized economic zones is essential.
