Pillay says sexual offences for the month of May alone recorded an increase of about three times the number of cases reported for the same period last year.

Offences that come under this include rape, sexual abuse, sexual assault, incest, indecency etc

Speaking to youths at the Northern Division Youth and Sports Conference, Pillay says the buck stops with us.

“The challenge is on us, how well do we look after our young ones? How well are we looking after our young children? Who are they staying with? Who are they mingling around with? Who are they playing around with? Whom to trust? Whom not to trust?”

Pillay urged the youths to take back the message to their village, schools and communities to help create awareness.
