Sewer lines are causing a lot of pollution in public drains around the Labasa CBD.
Labasa Town Council CEO, Mohammed Ali says they have noted that most sewerage systems have their own pipes running into the public drains.

He told a public consultation in Labasa, when there is a failure with the pump, the sewerage goes into the drain.

This then will require the council to clean it up.

Ali says there is no civic pride in people and this can also be seen in the amount of rubbish dumped into the drains.

He says although there is a litter law in place, people are not adhering to it.
