The Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre has received a report that seven people onboard a fiberglass boat are drifting in the Lomaiviti waters.

It is believed these Fijians had left Nawaikama Island in Gau early this morning to cast their vote in Suva.

Fiji Navy Commander, Captain Humphrey Tawake says the Coordination Center was notified about the incident at around 10 this morning.

Captain Tawake says they immediately made arrangements with police officers at the Korovou Police Station to conduct a search and rescue.

He says reports are that the seven were spotted a few kilometers away from Naloto village in Verata, Tailevu.

“So it is advisable that we follow the weather advice that has been put out especially from the Meteoroidal Services in Nadi, those that are being broadcast in all radios and in daily newspapers as well.”

Captain Tawake says two out of the seven people are children.
