The Mineral Resources Department has announced that people will be allowed to use fireworks from 5pm to midnight on Diwali day – which is on 11th of November.
Like in previous years, the two-hour extension comes in to effect, with all other days, people only allowed to use fireworks from 5pm-10pm.
Department Senior Technical officer, Onisimo Fonmanu, says they also have a strict policy on which type of fireworks can be sold to the public.
Amongst those is the Roman Candles, which has a temporary import ban.
Fonmanu said those shops which still have the Roman Candles in stock can sell it but no new stock is allowed to be imported.
Meanwhile, Police Director of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu, adds they will be monitoring the situation closely leading to Diwali.
