Separate attacks on Police in the last 24 hours

Two separate attacks on police officers have been recorded in the Southern and Eastern Division over a 24 hour period.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Itendra Nair says an officer was attacked at the Delainavesi Community Post in Lami this morning and six officers were stoned when confronting a group of men who were allegedly trying to break in to a supermarket located at a complex in Nakasi yesterday.

ACP Nair says despite no injuries sustained during the ordeal, police assets were damaged.

The Acting Deputy Commissioner is reiterating attack on police officers will not be condoned and the public need to respect the work of the officers who are doing their very best t’o ensuring the safety and security of all Fijians.

The attacks in Delainavesi and Nakasi are examples where officers were allegedly confronted with cane knives and stones and beer bottles were thrown at the vehicle belonging to the Nakasi Police Station.

ACP Nair says officers are judged harshly when they fail to react during these attacks.

He adds the Police is an unarmed organization and at times are put in situations where they can’t defend themselves so they will take necessary actions for their safety during such incidents.

ACP Nair says all efforts are being directed towards arresting those involved.
