Sentencing submissions were heard in the Suva High Court in the case of a fourty-year-old mother who has been convicted with one count of infanticide.

The Court heard Vika Laliqavoka gave birth to the child in her bathroom at Cunningham in Suva on July 18th in 2011.

The baby proceeded from the accused’s body and fell on the floor.

Laliqavoka pressed her baby’s nose and tapped his cheeks, but he did not respond.

She wrapped the baby in a cloth, placed him inside a brown bag and placed him outside their home.

Bail has been extended for the accused and she will be sentenced next week.
