Sentencing for former police officer moved

The Suva Magistrates Court has moved the sentencing date of a former detective Corporal Setoki Taveta of the Fiji Police Force to February, 2016.

Taveta who is charged by FICAC with three counts of bribery appeared in Court yesterday without his lawyer.

FICAC says the Court has already delivered the judgement on the 8th of April and found Taveta guilty of the three counts of bribery.

However Prosecution made a submission there is an anomaly in the defense mitigation.

It is alleged that between the 25th and the 31st October, two years ago in Suva, Taveta allegedly accepted an advantage totaling $1,650 from one Areez Ahmed Khan.

The sentencing will be on the 3rd of February next year.
