The counsel for the accused submitted that bail be granted to his client as he was still employed at the Prime Minister’s Office.

FICAC objected to bail saying the charges were serious.

The court was told the accused was employed in an office of higher standards and deals with the public.

FICAC submitted that bail could jeopardize ongoing investigations that focused on other higher officials who are allegedly involved.

Maharaj was remanded and would appear again on 12th October.
