The Fiji Sugar Corporation Executive Chair Abdul Khan says, the sugar industry needs to learn to stand on its own feet now as government cannot continue to pump in money which can be used in other areas of development.
Khan says, while they’re thankful of the 240-million dollar grant given by government in the last two years, the industry must come to a realization that the government cannot continue to please the industry.
Khan says, there are other priority areas government needs to focus on.
The FSC Chair says, together with industry stakeholders, they are ready to assist farmers with new approaches to cane farming so they become less dependent on government.
