Sedition matter transferred to another Magistrates court

Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu and businessman Jagath Karunaratne appeared in the Suva Magistrates court this morning for their retrial matter.

Bulitavu and Karunaratne’s conviction and sentence was set aside by the Suva High court in August last year and a retrial was ordered after their appeal against conviction and sentence was allowed.

The duo are charged with one count each of sedition.

It is alleged that the two spray painted words in different places between Nausori and Suva with the seditious intention of bringing into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the Government.

The alleged incidents occurred between the 1st to the 27th of August 2011.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili today transferred the matter to be called before another Magistrates.

The case has been adjourned to next Monday.
