A 44-year-old security officer has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after the Suva High Court found him guilty of rape.

The Suva High Court heard that the accused committed the offence on 26th September 2013.

The victim – who was 19 years of age at the time of the attack, is related to the accused wife.

The Court heard that the accused under the pretext of giving the victim a lift to her school –invited her to go in his car.

On the way he persuaded her to drink four glasses of rum mixed with coke.

He then took her to a lonely spot and raped her.

The security officer has a non-parole sentence of nine years.
