Second phase of Men C vaccination to arrive tomorrow

The first batch of the second phase of the meningococcal vaccination will arrive in the country tomorrow.

Health Minister, Rosy Akbar says this will allow the ministry to begin their vaccination programme in the Western division and parts of the Northern division.

Akbar says the first phase of the programme was carried out successfully where they covered the Central division and Ra sub-division.

“I will not be able to give you an exact figure of how many is coming but I can assure you that the first batch of the second phase is arriving into the country tomorrow, so hopefully we will start off within a couple of weeks of the vaccination programme in the Western division.”

The minister is urging all Fijians to remain proactive and to look out for any signs and symptoms of the meningococcal disease.

Some of the symptoms that you should be alert for in babies are; high fever, unusual crying, refusing to eat or drink, vomiting, floppy/drowsy, changes in sleeping patterns, seizures or Fits and rash – red/purple spots on the skin.
